EverGreens and EverBlues Winter Collection

EverGreens and EverBlues Winter Collection

Last week I presented illustrations for the Blueprint Surface Design and Print Show. The event would normally be held in New York City, but this year it’s been an online experience. I’ve selected some autumn and winter prints and created the collections for viewing online for the first time—it was truly an exercise in organization!

Most of my work lately has been centering around my home on eastern Long Island. I’ve made drawings of trees and florals and animals that call this area their home too. This theme has influenced my illustrations and patterns, as well as printmaking and paintings. For example, I’ve been painting and drawing this Tulip Tree, a tree that’s found around the Northeastern region of the U.S. I’ve discovered it on many walks during the height of the pandemic (I’ve written about creating art prints of this tree in this earlier post). I drew its transformation throughout the seasons, translating it into watercolor paintings, solar prints, animations, and digital repeat patterns.

I am growing to understand the importance of cultivating our native landscape and how crucial this is to our whole ecosystem and its ability to survive and thrive. I’m hoping that creating artwork inspired by our home will motivate people to care for our land. We could celebrate the diversity of our surroundings, and be the best advocates for sustainable and healthy habitats.

The Blueprint Live Show has ended, and I feel like I have a bit of breathing room again. I’ll soon be onto client work, studio time, and teaching until the next event.
